Happy Tails
Zooey (formerly Eller)
In what could only be described as fate, I first saw and fell in love with Zooey, then Eller, at the ACC. As soon as they brought her out of her crate, I knew she was the puppy for me. In the midst of our first meet, an employee informed me that she had already been adopted and that her cage was mis-marked. After pleading with them to take my information in case the adoption fell through, a nice volunteer scribbled my info on a piece of paper.
The next morning the phone rings. It’s the lady from the ACC telling me that the people never came to pick Zooey up and that BARC Shelter had rescued her and taken her there. Out of all the people that could have taken her, or any of the shelters that could have rescued her, she was transferred to a shelter around the corner from my apartment.
I filled out my application immediately, but had to wait a week to actually take her home. In that time I observed Robert, all the BARC employees, and their many volunteers taking such good care of all the pups.
It’s been 6 months, and Zooey and I have the best time together. She’s the coolest dog a person could ask for. Hysterically funny when she runs down my hallway and slides a la Tom Cruise in Risky Business, and sweet and affectionate when she climbs in bed to cuddle after a long hard day at the dog park. I can’t say enough good things about BARC, and I know Zooey would say good things too, since she likes to (gently) pull me in that direction to visit Robert and cover his face with kisses.

About BARC
Happy Tails
I’ve been volunteering in the BARC cat loft since ’05. In ’07, I adopted 4-year-old Esmeralda, a beautiful calico who was very shy. I was told she was semi-feral but on my weekly visits, I noticed a glimmer of interest whenever I went to pet her—she’d circle her cage, then come back to my hand for more!
