The Story
Aponte is your chance to be a hero. And, not for nothing, to be adored and treasured in a way you could not have imagined. Because this dog is so desperately in need of a break that, given his giant and loving heart, we can promise you he will thank you every minute of your lives together with sweet kisses and gentle devotion.
Here’s Aponte’s sad story: He is now over seven years old. Four years ago, he was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Georgia. With the best of intentions, to be sure, but this Akita/Pit/Who-Knows-But-It-Adds-Up-to-Wonderful mix then spent until only recently continuing to bounce around shelters up North. It’s a terrible life for any dog, but it’s an especially cruel, extended one for a boy as dear as Aponte. The good news is that he has finally found foster care, where he is living in sweet harmony with another dog, and where the foster parent lavishes him with love and the calm surroundings he so desperately needs after living most of his life surrounded by chaos.
Aponte is ready to be someone’s perfect pet, if someone would please, finally, step up and be willing to give him the chance. He is wonderful with other dogs, and all he asks is a quiet place in which he might be allowed to enjoy a life he has never known, that he has never thought possible. A life that involves peace and love, far more of it given than taken. Please, allow this dog to live the rest of his days knowing that this can be a kind and even joyful world. We promise that your reward is that he will remind you of that as well, every day you spend together.
Aponte is overweight, but on a good nutrition plan that will get him down to 55lbs. Otherwise, he is in excellent health!
