Our dogs always like to get out and take a walk. Stop by BARC and enjoy a nice stroll with one of our dogs. Our cats need to be brushed, petted and socialized. Visit BARC's cat loft and visit our many cats and kittens.

Requirements for Volunteering
at BARC

• At least 21 years old or be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
• Bring picture ID and proof of address.
• Complete/sign a volunteer form (first visit only).
• You can download and complete the form in advance.

 

Volunteer Hours

Dog Walking:

Morning Shift, 9am to 12pm: Daily, Every Day of the Week

Evening Shift, 5pm to 7:30pm: Weekdays Only, Monday - Friday

There is no evening shift on Saturdays and Sundays.

NY Cares Volunteer Teams walk dogs Sun and Mon mornings (10:30-1pm) and Wed and Fri evenings (6-7:30pm). Individual volunteers can still walk dogs during these times, but priority will be given to the NY Cares teams.

Also, for the months of May, June, July 2010, we are partnering with Goldman Sachs. They will be walking our dogs every Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat morning throughout the months of May, June and July. Individual volunteers can still walk dogs during these times, but priority will be given to the corporate teams.

GROUP VOLUNTEERING (5+ volunteers)
We partner with corporations, schools, and community groups to volunteer with us. If you are interested in scheduling a volunteer project with us, please send us an email.

Visiting Cat Loft:

12pm to 5pm: Tuesday - Saturday
The cat loft is closed on Sunday and Monday

We always need volunteer for the following assignments:

Dog Walkers

Rain or shine our dogs need to be walked! Help exercise and socialize our vast array of small to large dogs by walking them around our funky Williamsburg neighborhood and beautiful parks. Who knows, you may even meet someone (dog or other) very special!

Activities/Requirements:

• Dog Walking Hours :Morning Shift, 9am to 12pm: Daily, Every Day of the Week. Evening Shift, 5pm to 7:30pm: Weekdays Only, Monday - Friday
  There is no evening shift on Saturdays and Sundays. Dogs are NOT walked between noon and 5 pm because we want them to be available during adoption hours, so prospective adopters can look at them.
• You should be comfortable with dogs and have a willingness to walk them based on their needs, level of health and fitness.
• You should wear comfortable shoes and clothes that can get dirty.
• You MUST be willing to pick up dog poop — it's the Law, and we are good neighborhood citizens. We will provide ample poop bags.
• You need to sign the volunteer sheet inside the store each time you come.
• You should bring a minimum of personal belongings as we have limited storage space.

 

Cat Lovers

Our cats always need to be petted, played with and socialized. Come brush, pet and socialize our cats and kittens.

Activities/Requirements:

• Cat Care Hours: 12pm to 5pm: Tuesday - Saturday
  The cat loft is closed on Sunday and Monday
• Must love and be comfortable with cats of varying personalities.
• You should wear clothes that can get dirty and full of cat hair.
• You should bring a minimum of personal belongings as we have limited storage space.
• You need to sign the volunteer sheet inside the store each time you come.
