Trap and Release Programs

  • Neighborhood cats - To improve the lives of the millions of cats living on our streets and support the compassionate people caring for them. ​
  • Give Me Shelter Project - Our story began in 2008 when we were part of a small group of independent rescuers who came together to rescue 88 cats from an eviction situation.  Most of the cats were not friendly enough to be adopted.  We searched and found placements far and wide
  • Bronx Tails Cat Rescue - We are volunteers, dedicated to improving the lives of local stray and feral cats in the Bronx and Harlem. We perform Trap-Neuter-Return of stray and feral cats living in managed colonies in our communities, provide medical care for sick and injured feral cats, and rescue friendly strays for adoption to forever homes.
  • ​Infinite Hope - Infinite Hope is an all-volunteer IRS-approved 501(c)(3) not-for-profit animal rescue located in Brooklyn, NY. Since its inception in early 2004, Infinite Hope has placed over 1500 animals in permanent and loving homes and has provided care to hundreds more cats through TNR (Trap Neuter Return) projects.
  • Brooklyn Fat Cats - Just call us the FAT Cats! - is a group of cat colony caretakers in Flatbush, Brooklyn, primarily in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. We’ve joined forces to help the outside cats in our area stay healthy while limiting their population growth. We’re energized by the mutual support our new coalition offers, making us more than the sum of our parts.

Kitten season


  • Take a look at the photo below to see what to do if you have a stray kitten. 
  • BARC Shelter can ONLY take kittens under the below restrictions:
    • They MUST be 8 weeks or older 
    • They MUST be 2 pounds or bigger 
    • They MUST be vetted and fixed if they are not we require a minimum donation of $100 per kitten/cat to assist in their medical costs. 
    • If any of the cats test positive for FIV or FLV they must be returned to the "owner" or "finder" as our facility is to close knit and the illness can spread causing an epidemic. 
    • WE MUST HAVE SPACE. If you call or email in and are told we do not have space, then we do not have space.
